my need for surgical instruments in cake decorating

Buttercream wedding cake

The cake inside is chocolate and vanilla. Lets just say buttercream and chocolate cake are not the best of friends. Theres always frosting, smoothing, frosting, smoothing and refrosting when theres chocolate cake involved. We don't mind, but its near impossible to not get a crumb in the final coat. And it makes my OCD or in other words, my need for impossibly high expectations, not to be an issue. The cake turned out beautiful! It has buttercream stencils, satin ribbon and silvers dragees. It was all accented with pearls to hold the ribbons. I love that because it reminds me of lacing up pearl buttons on a corsett.

All through the making of this cake I was thinking of different tools to use to make things easier and more precise. There I go again, wanting perfectly perfect lines on everything. I really wanted a pair of a certain type of tweezer used in surgical procedures to put all the pearls on though. I know, I'm a weirdo.....and a cautery knife to smooth the buttercream and get a crazy crisp line on all the edges.
But it was crisp, clean and fancy! I love this cake!

My name is Aerial and I have a chocolate problem.

Christmas cakes for a christmas party! These cakes were made for a dear friends christmas/ornament party. We all had a blast and the cakes were a hit! Thanks to Mindy for an awesome night!

CANDLE CAKE

This cake is chocolate with buttercream frosting. It has a real candle in the top to set the mood with a warm glowing flame. It was perfect on a foggy winter night! I love the way a candles flame looks in winter...and on top of a cake is even better! I love the bow on this cake. Its made from gelatin. The pic isn't as high res as I would like it to be because you cant see the texture in the bow but its beautiful anyway. The "jello bow" was my favorite decoration of all.

Another CANDLE CAKE and CHERRY CHOCOLATE WALNUT

These candle cakes are popular! But...lets talk about cherry chocolate walnut! Can I tell you how much I love cherry chocolate cake?! Probably cant because it wouldn't be appropriate to voice my deep seeded desire for chocolate on a blog. Ahem, we'll just keep it decent for now. I love this chocolate cake so much it makes me drool just looking at the picture. It has a secret ingredient to keep it super moist too.

EDIBLE ORNAMENTS

My mother and I have been debating on what to call this cake. The pan is called a loaf pan....loaf is now added to the list of words never to repeat after a pretty lively convo with mom. Weird. But I will share with you that what I wanted to call this cake was much worse than....loaf. The cake is much too pretty to call it "loaf".
Its a moist red velvet cake with peppermint frosting and....ladies stay with me.....get ready to wipe up the puddle of drool on your chin......GANACHE!!!! Even more than I looooove(Something from Shaft, or Chicago playing in the background) chocolate I love ganache. Do ya'll know what ganache is made from? Its made from heavy cream and delicious chocolate. Um yeah, any kind of fat added is ok with me.

The ornaments on top of the cake are also made from gelatin. They were fun to make and decorate the cake with. I think it turned out adorable!

CARAMEL RASPBERRY FILLED WHITE CAKE

This cake is exquisite to the taste! It was our families favorite to eat, with the exception of me and my chocolate problem. I did love it too by the way. Everything on this cake is edible including my favorite, the "jello bow". I just loved the fondant twills. They were crusted with glitter. Everything is better with glitter dust on it!
